So this morning I had to wake up super duper early, like 5 plus going 6 in the morning for this so called excursion I had to attend at 8am sharp, together with some of my other classmates. All in all, only 14-15 dmts students came? I guess many people couldn't wake up! Only 5(including myself) people from my class attended, lol! So the bus picked us up from TRCC and we headed our way to our destination: Leong Jin Corporation (A well-known/established steel factory in Singapore) Upon reaching, we settled down in the lecture room for a briefing and were given some introduction about the company and etc..... this was the part where I almost fell asleep, I was just too tired. Then the fun and exciting part came where we were split into our teams to tour around the steel factory + the labs. What I liked about the whole thing was that we got to do quite a number of hands on testing. Like testing the hardness of the steel using different equipments; how to use em and how to read the data off, and stuff like that.. stuff that weren't taught to us at school. We also got to watch the staff do their thing, like heating the big steel metals up in this
870 degrees celcius furnace and we even got to stand somewhat near (ok not near, quite a distance away) the furnace where we could totally feel the heat from where we were standing. It was REALLY hot. The staffs whom were doing all that work were dressed in suits which really resembled to those of astronauts' no kiddd, hahaha. No pictures were taken for the steel plant tour itself cause photography and video recording weren't allowed, sadly. Overall, I had a really good experience and it was definitely a fruitful trip despite us being so sleepy and tired in the morning! The boss and other people who showed us around and taught us how to use the equipments and etc were really warm and friendly as well, could tell that they really love their jobs and are proud of it. After the 4-5 hr tour and experience in that factory, my perspective of "a steel factory"(in general) changed. But really, it's
MORE than just a steel factory. I can't wait for the next trip to the polymers or plastic factory, whichever! LOL ^.^
